Glossary

128-bit encrypted key: An advanced system for encoding and therefore securing signals.

868 MHz to 870 MHz. By using one of three frequencies, there is little chance of the signal being stuck in a traffic jam with other signals.

Bi-directional: Literally, signals that go in two directions. So a remote control can not only send a signal or an order for example, but also receive information from a device.

Compatibility: The ability to fit into a system and use its functions or send and receive orders.

Encrypted keys: Keys that are used to scramble a signal to avoid it being intercepted and subsequently de-scrambled by the devices for execution.

Patented technology: Systems that have been developed and therefore protected (patented) by the inventor.

Perimetric: Literally, of the perimeter. For example, alarms that are placed on doors or gates.

Plug & play: The ability to install devices and immediately use it without any configuration.

Radio frequencies: Wireless devices work at specific radio frequencies.

Receiver: The part of a device's chip that receives signals (orders) from the other products.

Reconfigure: Re-setting a system after changes. In future-compatible systems such as io-homecontrol®, this happens automatically.

Transmitter: The part of an appliance’s chip that communicates with the other products.

Two-way radio technology: Systems that enable messages to come and go. So an appliance could receive an order from a control, while also informing the control when the task is accomplished.

Wireless: Systems that communicate using radio waves, which eliminates the need for cabling and all the problems that entails.
